HC WIESBADEN SUPPORTS SAVING HENKELL KUNSTEISBAHN!

Save the Rink 1

From 10 am to 6 pm on March 7, 2015, more than 20 Vikings supported the “Save the Rink” initiative in downtown Wiesbaden by manning an information stand and collecting over 700 signatures in support of a petition to the local parliament.

After finding more than 20 defects in the cooling system at the rink in November of 2014, the environmental regulators are requiring that the Henkell Kunsteisbahn be closed at the end of March until the defects are fixed.  The cost for fixing the defects is unknown.  To ensure the continuation of ice sports in Wiesbaden, the Vikings and other ice sport clubs in Wiesbaden have formed an initiative to save the Henkell Kunsteisbahn for the near future and to build a new, energy efficient, covered rink in the future.

The initiative has had very strong initial success, with gaining over 8,000 signatures in support.  This support has gained the attention of local governmental leaders, including the OB who has indicated his support for finding a workable solution to support the future of ice sports in Wiesbaden.

The future is bright here in Wiesbaden!  GVG!
