Cuddeback Vikings 3rd place
In memory of A1C Zac Cuddeback who was tragically killed at the Frankfurt Airport in 2011, the KMC Eagles welcomed 8 teams to the 2nd AnnualCuddeback Ice Hockey Tournament. The Vikings had a slow start as we fell to the KMC Eagles 1 in our opening game. We bounced back to win three of our next five games to take us to the 3rd place game. The 3rd place game was hard fought and looking promising for the Vikings in the first half, but after already playing seven games in two days the Zweibrucken Hornets were able to take control and win 5-3. There were many reasons to be proud this weekend. First off, we had a mixed team ranging from guys who have been playing hockey their whole lives, to a highly motivated newcomer, Ken Pehoski who played in his very first hockey game on Saturday. The Vikings netted some very pretty goals, made some extraordinary defensive plays and goalie Ken Schoonover really used his head in this tournament (see photo). The Vikings fought hard as a team but one guy in particular was recognized for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Rookie Jeffrey “Rook” Hackshaw was named MVP of the 2nd Annual Cuddeback Cup. Great Job Rook!! We were also able to send off one of the Vikings pioneers with a very fun weekend. Joel Saucier, your dedication to the team has never been unnoticed! Good luck Viking # 4. Thank you to everyone who showed up to make this once again an unforgettable weekend. GVG!!
